What is Emotional Intelligence?
While it is often misunderstood as Intelligence Quotient (IQ), Emotional Quotient (EQ) is different. Your IQ is a measure of general intelligence and EQ is a measures your emotional intelligence; one is not an indication of the other. For example, we have all met someone who is incredibly intellegent but lacks the "people" skills to succeed. In today's work environment where collaboration and teamwork are such a critical component, the need for EQ often trumps a person's I.Q. It's no surprise that there are CEOs who were hired for their skills and talents but fired for their lack of EQ.
Emotional Quotient is the ability to sense, understand, and effectively apply the power and accumen of emotions to facilitate high levels of collaboration and productivity. In the business environment, EQ is important because it helps you leverage your awareness of emotions for effectiveness in the workplace.
