Performance Measurement systems, and the broader implications relating to a Performance Management approach, are a widely accepted best practice in business. As a result, there is an ever-increasing demand for expert support in this field. However, until now there has not been a formalized educational and/or experiential path to master the skills required to become a specialist in this field.

 

Accountants are uniquely positioned and skilled to support their clients through the delivery of Performance Management advisory services for the following reasons:

 

As a fall-out to recent accounting scandals, shareholders and investors are looking for reliable, relevant, and timely performance indicators that reflect a more accurate state of business. FASB and the AICPA Special Committee on Enhanced Business Reporting have made it clear that business reports of the future will include both financial and non-financial performance indicators.  Many CPA firms are gaining a significant competitive advantage by developing and delivering performance measurement services to their business clients now, rather than waiting for them to be mandated.

 

For some time now, digital dashboards, executive cockpits, and scorecards have provided large corporations with the means to measure, monitor, and strategically manage critical activities on a real-time basis.
